Selection Process
Selection Process
We welcome schools by invitation only, based on a number of aspects, including participation at other international case competitions, reputation, emphasis on case-based teaching, or bilateral exchange agreements with McGill University.The top three winners are invited to return the following year. We also strive to maintain an international balance by ensuring that each region of the world is well represented.
Invitations are sent from May to September, and the final line-up is usually locked as early as 7 months prior to each edition. If you are interested to send a team, we accept formal requests for consideration throughout the year, although this does not guarantee an invitation.
Elibility Criteria (Schools)
- Eligible schools include universities, their Faculty or School counterparts, and business schools.
- Independent academies, colleges and institutes must offer a full-time program equivalent to a bachelor.
- All schools should have an undergraduate program in Commerce, Management, Business Administration, and/or Economics.
- Graduate schools (MBA) and establishments focused on executive education are not eligible.
Eligibility Criteria (Students)
To compete at MMICC, students must:- be an undergraduate
- be enrolled in a degree or major in Business, Economics or Management
- if in Law or Social Sciences, be enrolled in a double-major program, as long as one of the majors is in Business, Economics or Management
- have a full-time course load at the time of the competition
- be registered at your school (exchange students cannot compete for your school)
- be in their fourth consecutive year of bachelor or less
- be 25 years old or less
- be eligible for travel into Canada
How to compete
- If you are a professor or staff, we invite you to submit a request for consideration to send a team at MMICC.
- If you are a student or team, we encourage you to first communicate with your professors or your student affairs office, or to contact us if you have any questions.
- McGill students who wish to compete at MMICC or at other case competitions must first take the Case Analysis and Presentation class (BUSA 499), then go through a selection process particular to that class. We do not select BCom students to participate at any case competition.
Team Composition
A team is made up of 4 students and 1 advisor. The advisor can be a coach, professor, coordinator or staff. During MMICC week, each team is joined by an ambassador from McGill to make up a delegation. You may not bring an alternate student (5th member).Logistics & Travel
Cost
MMICC covers the following expenses:- All activities, events and meals on the schedule
- Supplies and equipment for the case
- Breakfast, 24-hour coffee/tea, and wireless internet are provided free of charge at the hotel
- Accommodation at the Marriott Residence Inn Downtown Montreal
- Airfare
- Out-of-pocket expense
- Transportation to and from venues, except for Snow Tubing
Methods of payment
- The hotel accepts on-site credit card or cash, and a deposit is invoiced to each school ahead of the competition.
- All matters of payment are at each school's discretion.
- Cash ($CAD) is recommended for taxi fares, tips and other out-of-pocket expenses. Upon check-in, the hotel will also ask for 1 credit card per room to be put on file.
Who is responsible for travel arrangements?
You are responsible for your travel arrangements. However, a McGill Ambassador is available to greet your team at the airport, and will also guide them throughout the week.Who is responsible for booking hotel rooms?
MMICC will books rooms on your behalf as soon as your travel dates and flight information are received. All teams are lodged at the Marriott Residence Inn Downtown Montreal.Each team is divided into 2 rooms for the students (Studio Double), and 1 room for the advisor (Studio King). Students will be assigned to rooms on double-occupancy, and will be paired by gender. Studio Double rooms feature 2 double beds, 1 stretch-out, a living and dining space and fully equipped kitchen. Studio King rooms feature 1 king bed, a living and dining space and fully equipped kitchen.
Please be advised that the hotel will not accept room changes or floor requests, as MMICC requires a specific floor layout for the case period. Each team, however, can swap rooms during the rest of the week.
Travel Visa Requirements
If a student must apply for a visa for entry into Canada, MMICC will draft an official invitation letter to support the process. We ask that the advisor send us the following information:- Student's name (as it appears on the passport)
- Passport number
- Passport expiration date
- Country who issued the passport
- Date of birth
- Home address
- Telephone number
